Thirty years ago, I embarked on an independent research project, exploring seminal studies in zoology and anthropology. It was originally intended to satisfy my own curiosity and appeal only to an audience of one— me. But as I took deeper and deeper dives into the literature, I found powerful parallels between the social and sexual evolution of members in the animal kingdom, including human beings.
Over the past year, revisiting those knowledge expeditions, I sat down to update the fascinating discoveries I collected decades earlier. Now looking through the lens of a husband and parent, I organized my long-ago notes into short essays about sexual rituals in the wild and in the human world.
My primary aim was to cut through the jungle of scientific jargon and the thick vines of scholarly footnotes, clearing the way for me to present selected findings and personal insights in plain English.
I hope you agree that I achieved my goal as you read the posts that will follow over the coming months.
